Glass Ionomer Cement – Type 2
Type II glass ionomer cement is a self-hardening restorative suitable for permanent dental fillings.
Indications:
Restoration of erosive/abrasive lesions without cavity preparation.
Sealing and filling of occlusal pits and fissures.
Restoration of milk teeth.
Restoration of class V carious lesions.
Restoration of class III carious lesions, preferably using a lingual approach.
Repair of defective edges in restorations.
Minimal cavity preparations in proximal lesions through clip and occlusal approach (tunnel preparations).
Core built.
Provisional restorations where future crowns with veneers are planned.
Sealing on the surface of the roof for prostheses
Properties;
GIC II contains X-ray opaque glass powder and an organic polymer liquid.
Offers strong adhesion to enamel and dentin.
High compressive strength. It is also used in fillings before the preparation of crowns.
Enables permanent restoration of Class III, Class V and small class fillings.
It is used for fillings of milk teeth/sealing of fissures, fillings of cervical erosions.
Advantages:
Chemical adhesion to the tooth structure enables minimal cavity preparation without the need for etching or bonding agents. Chemical curing without shrinkage and similar thermal expansion to tooth structure offers excellent marginal sealing. Strontium-based glass provides good X-ray visibility facilitating postoperative diagnosis. Low solubility for more permanent and long-lasting fillings. Long-term clinical success.
